Police: Countefeit Travelers Checks Passed at Cedar Valley Businesses
Police said fake travelers checks were passed by several individuals to area businesses.

Cedar Falls Police are warning area businesses to use caution when accepting travelers checks.Â
Counterfeit $100 American Express Travelers Cheque’s were passed by several individuals to businesses located at College Square Mall, Crossroads Mall and Black Hawk Village on Nov. 13. The suspects purchased low priced items and then paid with the counterfeit checks.
Police said one suspect was described as a heavy-set black female in her 20s with longer hair with bright orange tips.

Businesses should be aware of the security features of travelers checks and always ask for i.d. when accepting them. If there is any problem with a check or it is suspected to be a fake, call the bank that issued the check. All banks are required to keep files of these transactions.
