Price Lab Teacher Honored With Presidential Award

science teacher Jody Stone has been awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Across the country, 97 mathematics and science teachers received the award. A press release from the White House said a panel of scientists, mathematicians, and educators selected the winners after an initial selection process at the state level.

"I am honored and humbled by being selected to receive this award," Stone wrote on the Presidential Awards website. "I have been blessed to be part of the best teaching and learning environment in Iowa, possibly in the nation. Price Laboratory School is a place where teachers are encouraged to think outside the box and we, in turn, seek to inspire our students to do the same. Our talented team of teachers stimulate each other to creatively develop and implement ways to get kids to think more deeply, be more creative, and want to try harder."

Winners receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation to be used at their discretion. They also are invited Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony and several days of educational and celebratory events.

Math teacher Karla Digmann, of Dubuque, was also honored with the award.
