Raw Sewage Released Into Dry Run Creek, Cedar River in Cedar Falls

Press release from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources:

A 30-inch force main broke Wednesday afternoon at East 15th and Bluff streets in Cedar Falls, releasing an estimated 50,000 gallons of raw wastewater to Dry Run Creek.

Dry Run Creek empties into the Cedar River 1,000 feet downstream of the discharge. The discharge was controlled by city crews with auxiliary pumps that are diverting the flow to a downstream manhole. The main will be repaired today

Area residents should avoid areas along Dry Run Creek downstream of 15th Street and the Cedar River downstream from the mouth of Dry Run Creek to the Highway 380 overpass for the next 48 hours.

The DNR is monitoring the situation.
