Report: Boy Shot in Cedar Falls Firing Range Accident Improving

A boy who was accidentally shot in the head at the Black Hawk Park firing range Oct. 29 is improving, according to Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department Captain Rick Abben.

Abben told KWWL David William Young, 8, who was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Brain Trauma Center after the shooting, is doing better and has had a breathing tube removed.

No charges will be filed in the incident, the Black Hawk County Attorney's Office said.

Young apparently wandered into the line of fire while another family member was shooting, the Sheriff's Department said. A source close to the investigation told KWWL the gun was in the hands of the boy's five-year-old sister.
