Will Your Road Be Closed? Work Begins on Three Cedar Falls Roads Today

The road will be closed - here's for how long, and what residents should know.

Longview Street, Pine Street and Seerley Boulevard will all be affected by road construction for the next several weeks. Here's what you need to know:

For Seerley Boulevard:

Beginning Monday, May 7, 2012, Stage 1B reconstruction of Seerley Boulevard will begin by closing Seerley Boulevard from College Street to Olive Street.

In order for the contractor to begin water service work and pavement removal, a road closure will be required. The road closure will be in effect for six to eight weeks, depending on the weather. Two-lane head-to-head traffic will be allowed on the eastbound lane of Seerley Boulevard from Tremont Street to Olive Street.

During the road closure on Seerley Boulevard, alternate garbage pickup points will be required for residents having automated collection within the closure area. Residents may place their collection carts on the open portion of College Street, Olive Street, Walnut Street, Iowa Street, and Tremont Street. This should be done on the normal collection day for the particular street and carts should be retrieved on the same day.

For Longview and Pine Streets:

Beginning Monday, May 7th, resurfacing will start on the following streets:

STREET                 FROM                 TO

Longview Street     Center Street     Longview Court
Pine Street            Clair Street        Western Avenue

After the existing roadway has been prepared, the base layer of asphalt will be placed. The roadways may be restricted during this process only due to the size of the equipment. Once the base is placed and rolled, the roadway will be open to traffic.

Within a few days after base placement, Aspro will begin placing the surface course. After the surface course is placed the roadways will be closed for approximately 12 hours in order to allow the surface to cool. The contractor will provide notice to each residence a minimum of 24 hours in advance of this closure so vehicles may be relocated.

For all projects:

The City of Cedar Falls has awarded the 2012 Street Restoration Project to ASPRO Inc. of Waterloo, Iowa. This contractor will be reconstructing/repairing portions of seventeen (17) streets as a part of this project. Funding for this project is provided by the 1% Local Option Sales Tax.

For safety's sake, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed street. It would be advisable to stay behind the sidewalk on the property side during the reconstruction work.
