Update: Missing Hawkeye Community College Student Found

The search for Taylor Lee Franco, 19, of Davenport, began Sunday..

Taylor Lee Franco, 19, of Davenport, was found safely this morning after an extensive search.

"This is exactly the way we wanted this to work out. We couldn’t have asked for a better resolution,” Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson said.

He said Franco, who lives on the University of Northern Iowa campus and attends Hawkeye Community College,was found walking along the Cedar Valley Nature Trail adjacent to Gilbertville, and has been taken to the hospital.

Franco had allegedly tried to break into a home near La Port City early Sunday morning. He was approached by the residents, and seemed to think he lived there. He reportedly left on foot, leaving his shoes behind.

A search began Sunday, involving Black Hawk County sheriff's deputies, Iowa State Patrol and La Porte City police and fire department officers. It was discontinued last night and started again this morning.
