Second UNI Presidential Candidate's Name, Biography Released

Avijit Ghosh is currently Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Avijit Ghosh, currently Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, is the second of three candidates vying for the job of the next president of the University of Northern Iowa.

The , was announced Wednesday. The third and final candidate's name will be released in coming days.

Ghosh's biography and curriculum vitae were released today ahead of his upcoming campus visit. He will visit Cedar Falls Jan. 30 and 31, with a public forum at 2 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Slife Ballroom in UNI's Commons.

Ghosh currently serves as a professor at the College of Business at Urbana-Champaign and as Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Illinois, a position he has held since 2001. Before that he was a professor at New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

Ghosh already has connections to Iowa. He got his Master of Arts and his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in the late 1970s, and was an assistant professor of marketing there from 1979 to 1980.

Ghosh also completed a post-graduate program in management at Xavier Institute in India and holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) from Calcutta University in India.

After Ghosh and the other two candidates visit campus, the Presidential Search Committee will forward its recommendation to the Board of Regents, which will have the final vote.

The third candidate’s visit is scheduled for Feb. 4 and 5. The time and place of the public forum will be released when the itinerary is finalized.

Current President Ben Allen announced he will retire by July this year.
