Should Protestors Need a Permit to Camp in Cedar Falls Parks? Tell Us What You Think

The Cedar Falls city council passed, for a second time, an ordinance that would allow protestors to apply for a permit to camp in Gateway Park. They will vote a third and final time in two weeks.

On Monday the  approved, on its second reading, an ordinance that would allow protestors to camp in Gateway Park if they first acquired a permit.

The move is in response to Occupy Cedar Valley's long-term camp in Overman Park last fall. There was no city ordinance in place to inform city staff how to deal with the protestors, who maintained an amiable relationship with the city council and police.

The council had originally , but a third vote must occur, most likely at the council's next meeting on April 23, before the ordinance becomes official.
