"Superintendent of the Year" Accepts Cedar Falls Position

Mike Wells will take over for outgoing Cedar Falls school district Superintendent Dave Stoakes.


Mike Wells, current superintendent of Winterset Community School District, has accepted the position of superintendent of the Cedar Falls Community School District, beginning July 1.

Well was one of five finalists for the job who visited Cedar Falls last week. He will replace current superintendent Dave Stoakes, who is retiring this summer.

Prior to his position in Winterset, Wells was superintendent of the Corning Community School District from 2003 to 2009, receiving “Superintendent of the Year” award from Area Education Agency 14.

He also served as principal in Corning from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Wells served as teacher, principal, and coach in Murdock and Niobrara, Neb. from 1995 to 2000.
