Taylor Morris Coming Home Today; Friends Plan Surprise Cedar Falls Welcome Parade

The Cedar Falls sailor who was injured in Afghanistan today will make his first trip back to his hometown since his injuries.

Taylor Morris is coming home.

After almost four months of recovery from a bomb blast that took portions of all four limbs, the Cedar Falls native will make his first return visit to his hometown today.

An explosives disposal expert with the Navy, Morris was injured in Afghanistan in May. Since then at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. With the help of prosthetics, he is learning to walk again.

This will be his first trip back to Iowa since his January deployment. Friends of the sailor want Morris, 23, to be welcomed home in style. They are planning a surprise welcome parade, asking residents to line the road from the Waterloo airport down Airline Highway to Main Street in downtown Cedar Falls.

Supporters are asked to bring signs and flags to make the route festive. Morris is expected to land around 1 p.m., after which he has requested a trip to favorite downtown eatery for a burrito.
