Tow Truck vs. Tractor Trailer Accident North of Cedar Falls Sends 2 to Hospital

The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 218 and Mr. Vernon Road.

A tow truck, loaded down with a van, was rear-ended by a tractor trailer north of Cedar Falls Thursday, sending two men to the hospital.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's deputies responded to the accident at the intersection of Highway 218 and Mt. Vernon Road around noon.

Officials said Chase Sudol, 24, of Nashua, was driving a tow truck south on Highway 218, towing a van owned by David Oler, 55, of Cedar Falls. Oler was a passenger in the tow truck.

Deputies said Sudol was slowing down to turn west onto Mt. Vernon Road when a tractor-trailer driven by Jeffrey Hoffman, 38, of Bloomer, Wis., ran into him from the rear.

The collision caused the van to separate from the tow truck. The van ended up in the middle of the intersection at Highway 218 and Mt. Vernon Road, officials said. The tow truck and the tractor-trailer ended up in the ditch.

Sudol and Oler were transported to Waterloo hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. Hoffman was not injured.

Officials said Sudol was cited for allegedly failing to comply with safety regulations

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Janesville Police Department, Janesville First Responders, Cedar Falls Fire Department and Sartori Paramedics in responding to the accident.
