UNI Homecoming Guide: Game Time, Daily Activity Schedule

A full week of activities will lead up to the University of Northern Iowa Homecoming football game against Southern Illinois.

The University of Northern Iowa's Homecoming celebration begins Monday, Oct. 7, and continues through Saturday, Oct. 12, featuring many events and activities.

The official kick-off ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, on the roof of Maucker Union. The celebration will include the Pride Cry Competition, performances by the UNI Spirit Squad and live music from the Panther Marching Band.

At 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, nominees will present a Royalty Showcase in the Maucker Union Ballroom. Participants will show their skills and compete for the titles of king and queen. A Homecoming picnic is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Campanile Plaza.

Wednesday, Oct. 9, also marks the start of the Traditions Challenge, which is hosted by the UNI Alumni Association. Teams of five will compete in an "Amazing Race" challenge across campus and take group photos at each destination in order to complete a challenge. Teams can register for the Traditions Challenge Amazing Race at www.uni.edu/homecoming/traditions-challenge-amazing-race. Afterward, students can head over to Maucker Union for Casino Night at 8 p.m.

Mike Super, a magician and illusionist, will perform at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, in Maucker Union. Super was the winner of the hit NBC show Phenomenon.

At 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11, the Homecoming Pep Rally will take place on Lawther Field. The rally will feature the final round of Pride Cry, performances from the cheer and dance teams, and the Royalty Coronation. Campaniling will be at midnight at the Campanile Plaza.

The UNI football team will face-off against Southern Illinois at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, in the UNI-Dome.
