Occupation: Semi-retired farmer, teacher, Congressional aide, Regional Administrator for FEMA and consultant

1. Why did you decide to run for office?

Local government has big impact on people. I think my experiences and contacts are an asset in making local government work effeciently and effectively. I like the challenge of working together to make government work.

2. What issues do you want to address if elected?

With all the cut-backs coming from Des Moines and Washington, I think that local governments will have a big challenge to maintain the services to which people are accostomed. I want to be a part of the innovative ways that will be necessary for local government to maintain those services.

3. Why should voters choose you over your opponents in this race?

I believe that given my experiences in government, farming and teaching along with the contacts that I have made on the state and national levels and my knowledge of the area will be an asset to making county government work well.

4. What is your background?

As stated before I am a semi-retired farmer, former teacher, Congressional aide, Regional Administrator of FEMA and full time grandfather.

5. What is your favorite thing about living in the Cedar Valley?

This is my home. One of the best thing about this area are the biking/hiking trails. My family lives here so I can be a grandfather to my grandchildren and see them on a regular basis. We have good schools, good roads, good soil, good climate, and good friends. What else could anyone ask for?

6.  How long have you lived in the Cedar Valley and what brought you to live here?

 My great grandfather came to Black Hawk County in 1857 at the age of 9. Our grandchildren are the seventh generation to live in the farm house that he built in 1903 and where I grew up. I have been a resident of Black Hawk County all my life. I have very deep roots here and intend to stick around.
