Waterloo Man Charged in Theft of Antique Firearms, Bayonets, WWI and WWII Era Clothes in Cedar Falls

The clothes are missing from Cedar Falls Historical Society.


Cedar Falls police have arrested a Waterloo man and charged him with the theft of artifacts valued at $13,100 from the , 308 W. Third St.

On April 25, the Historical Society reported the theft of the artifacts, which included antique firearms, bayonets and clothes from the World War I and World War II eras.

Police said a former employee was suspected of being involved in the theft after co-workers allegedly observed him mishandling property at the museum.

During the subsequent investigation, police said they learned the employee, David Lynn Arnold, 58, of Waterloo, had allegedly been keeping the stolen items in a Waterloo home, unbeknownst to the homeowners.

Police said the home owners assisted with the recovery of the missing items.

Police arrested Arnold today and charged him with first-degree theft, a Class D felony. Police said he allegedly took the items while working at the Historical Society.
