Waterloo Man Given 10 Years for Beating Death
The sentence was delivered today in the trial of Paris Anding, who was convicted of second degree manslaughter in the death of Marcellus Andrews.
Multiple news outlets are reporting that Paris Anding, in the 2011 beating death of Waterloo teen Marcellus Andrews, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The case garnered national attention after it was reported Andrews was allegedly taunted by anti-gay slurs during the attack. His family said Andrews, 19, was not gay, and the case focused on a series of confrontations between Andings' family and Andrew's friends, ending with the deadly beating. Andrews was reportedly struck repeatedly in the back of the head with a baseball bat.
The 10-year sentence is the mandatory requirement for voluntary manslaughter in Iowa. There is no mandatory minimum time until Anding can be considered for parole.

Anding, 20, of Waterloo, was also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to Andrews' estate by Judge David Staudt in Black Hawk County Court today.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reported Anding wept as he apologized to Andrews' parents.
