Hydrants Being Flushed This Week - Will Your Neighborhood Have Discolored Water?

The city is flushing hydrants this week, and some neighborhoods should avoid doing laundry as a result.

will begin its regular schedule of flushing fire hydrants Monday, April 2 through Thursday during the spring. Information about where hydrant flushing will occur is available at here, on the CFU Facebook Page and on Twitter.

Flushing removes built-up sediment in the water mains and improves water quality. Fire hydrants are opened and run for about 20 minutes.

Residents should avoid water use when crews are flushing the hydrants in their neighborhood as the water to homes may be temporarily discolored. If water becomes discolored, residents should turn off the water for 30 minutes to allow workers time to complete the hydrant flushing. After the crews are finished, multiple water fixtures should be turned on within the home to clear the discolored water. If those steps do not clear the water line, residents should call CFU Water Services at 268-5332.
