"Why and How Should We Teach Science and Science Methods Classes in the 2010s?"

The 2013 Leland Wilson Endowed Chemistry Lecture will be presented by Paul Kelter from 7 to 8:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, in Lantz Auditorium in McCollum Science Hall on the University of Northern Iowa campus. His interactive discussion will be "Why and How Should We Teach Science and Science Methods Classes in the 2010s?"

Kelter is an award-winning teacher and researcher in chemistry and science education, with work centering on issues of teacher preparation, teaching and learning at both secondary and college levels. "Anyone with an interest in, or opinions about, how science is taught in our schools should consider joining the conversation," suggested Bill Harwood, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at UNI.

Kelter currently teaches at Northern Illinois University in the Department of Literacy Education. Overall, Kelter has written two major chemistry and chemistry-education books and authored more than 602 journal articles. He is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and founded the International Center for First-Year Chemistry Education.
