Coralville's Integrated DNA Technologies lays off 61 employees (thegazette.com) — One of Coralville’s largest biotech employers, Integrated DNA Technologies, has laid off 61 workers at its local headquarters as part of a global restructuring. The company says about 4.7% of its Iowa workforce was affected and that severance and support packages were offered, while operations continue in Coralville and at sites in California, Belgium, and Singapore.

2. Illinois manufacturer weighs Coralville relocation with $205,000 city incentive (corridorbusiness.com) — Coralville officials are weighing a $205,000 tax incentive to lure Illinois-based Morrison Weighing Systems into expanding at the University of Iowa Research Park, creating 14 well-paying local jobs. The proposed deal would significantly enlarge a Coralville facility, boost tax value, and deepen ties between the company, local vendors, and the university, though no final agreement has been signed yet.

Christmas cheer filled the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in Kalona on Sunday (thenews-ia.com) — Coralville residents were among the many who filled Sharon Center United Methodist Church in Kalona for a long-running Acoustic Christmas program featuring The Great Bluegrass Herons and other groups. With churches from Coralville and across the region represented, the evening mixed bluegrass, Appalachian holiday traditions, and personal stories. Another similar concert is set for Dec. 21 at the Ainsworth Opera House.

Superintendent of the Year: Matt Degner, Iowa City Community School District (k12dive.com) — Families in Coralville are part of the Iowa City Community School District that Superintendent Matt Degner has helped grow and stabilize despite vouchers and open enrollment competition. Degner expanded full-day preschool, boosted marketing, and built trust through community outreach and transparent data-sharing, while also growing postsecondary and career pathways in partnership with local colleges and Junior Achievement.
