Fire Ravages Iowa City H Street Home, Causing an Estimated $150,000 in Damage

No one was injured in the blaze that gutted a single-family home on H Street as fire fighters responded late into the morning hours Tuesday.

An Iowa City home on H Street was devestated by fire late Monday evening as fire fighters rushed to the scene.

According to an Iowa City Fire Department media release, at 11:38 p.m. Monday, firefighters were dispatched to 1811 H Street on Iowa City's east side for the report of a residential structure fire.

Although Iowa City fire units were on the scene quickly, they arrived finding the single-family home already immersed in flames, according to the release. After it was confirmed that all occupants had safely escaped, and the fire crews began an aggressive attack on the fire.

Eight ICFD fire crews worked to bring the fire under control at approximately 2:00 a.m., according to the release. Damage to the home and contents is estimated to be $150,000 at this time.

Firefighters were assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, and MidAmerican Energy. Firefighters remained on the scene overnight, according to the release.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal.
