Fiscal Cliff Deal Reached: Rep. Dave Loebsack Issues Statement Grudgingly Supporting. Grassley, Harkin Voted No
The fiscal cliff was averted, but if you want more political bickering wait for two months when the debt ceiling will have to be raised again.

There was a lot of drama, but the U.S. Congress actually succeeded in passing something to end 2012, a compromise to avoid the fiscal cliff and extend the farm bill. A deal that nobody appears all that pleased about.
Iowa had two of only eight total senators voting no against the deal. With Sen. Tom Harkin, a top-ranking Democrat, opining that the White House had ceded too much ground, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, a top-ranking Republican, calling the deal "a fiscal farce" that does not do enough to deal in his view to curb America's spending.
Also important to Iowa, dairy and wind credits were extended. For now.

"What we have seen take place in Washington over the last few months, and especially in the past few days, is nothing short of unconscionable. This is not a way to run the greatest country on earth. The people of Iowa expect and deserve better," saidΒ Loebsack.
