Former Hawkeye Nate Kaeding Signs With Tampa Bay Buccaneers

At the age of 31, Iowa City native and Hawkeye great Kaeding is still finding places on teams.

Kaeding's acquisition is a reminder that it's not easy out there for kickers. He's a two-time Pro Bowl selection who is one of the most accurate players at his position in league history.

On the Bucs, Kaeding figures to have an uphill battle to make the roster. Connor Barth signed a big extension before the 2012 season. Either way, we're already looking forward to one of the annual rites of training camp: Kicker battles.

Even though he has had a solid NFL career, Kaeding will only have a one-year contract according to the Des Moines Register.

The two-time Pro Bowl pick played for San Diego from 2004 until last season, when he was released after rehabbing from an ACL injury. When the Chargers released Kaeding, he was 7-for-7 on the season and left as the league’s most accurate regular-season kicker in history with at least 100 attempts — at 87 percent.
