Interim Principal John Saehler said he hasn’t seen any live cockroaches in the building since he started at Hoover just after Thanksgiving break.

Iowa City Community School District chief operating officer David Dude said the last full treatment was conducted Dec. 1 and another is scheduled this weekend. More treatments will be scheduled over winter break and the school also has implemented new measures to stave off more bugs.

“In addition to the treatments, teachers are being more diligent in regards to food in the classroom — storing properly, cleaning up, etc.” Dude said.
