Media Release
It will be a holiday chorus of a whole different kind this weekend, when the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center hosts its annual Holiday with the Hounds on Saturday, December 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event doubles as a Holiday Open House for people who are interested in adopting a pet, and a supply drive for animals housed at the center. It will be held at the Animal Care and Adoption Center, located at 4852 Sand Road, south of Iowa City.
Visitors are encouraged to bring gifts for the shelter animal's stockings, enjoy some cookies and cocoa, and meet the animals currently available for adoption.
Collection boxes for items on the Animal Center's supply drive wish list, which range from pet foods, treats, chew toys, and kitty litter to collars, paper towels, pet beds, and flea treatments, have also been set up in various businesses in the Iowa City area. For a list of items on the wish list and locations of donation boxes, visit www.icanimalcenter.org.
Later this month, on Friday, December 21 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., pets from the Animal Center will be participating in a special Holiday Tot Time at the Mercer / Scanlon Recreation Center at 2701 Bradford Drive. In addition to normal Tot Time activities such as playing on trikes, mats, slides, and inflatable bouncing toys, children aged 6 and under will have the opportunity to play with pets from the shelter, if they wish. Although there is usually a fee to participate in Tot Time activities, the special Holiday Tot Time event is free. A parent or guardian must be present to supervise their child at all times. No reservations are necessary.
