City High School is excited to announce that current Assistant Principal, Mr. Terry Coleman, will transition to the role of Athletic Director at our school. Coleman will succeed D'Anne Kroemer who has accepted the position of Associate Principal/Activities at Pleasant Valley High School. Coleman will assume his new duties managing the athletic department on July 1. The school will begin the search for a new assistant principal immediately.

Terry Coleman is highly qualified for the position, which he considers to be his "dream job". He has served as City High's assistant principal since 2008. Prior to that, Coleman's administrative experience includes serving as Associate Principal at North Scott High School, and as Science Curriculum Coordinator for the Iowa City Community School District. In the athletic realm, Coleman served as head coach of City High School's girls' track and field program. During his 10 years as head coach, Coleman's teams won four state championships and finished runner up an additional four times. His teams won seven Mississippi Valley Conference championships. Coleman was named state or regional Coach of the Year in nine out of his ten years as head coach.

During his tenure as City High Assistant Principal, Coleman has played an integral role in overseeing facilities projects at the school. He has coordinated over $12 million in building projects at City High School, including window installation, security camera installation, building renovations, music & drama addition, and athletic renovations. He chaired the City High landscape committee managing over $20,000 in campus improvements. He initiated and coordinated the City High School 70th Anniversary celebration. He also served on the leadership committee of the Stand Up for City High Bates Field project.

Prior to his role as a school administrator, Coleman was a successful science teacher at City High from 1993-2007. In 2005, Coleman was named the Iowa City Education Association's Teacher of the Year.

City High Principal John Bacon said, "Terry Coleman is an outstanding school administrator. He is highly ethical and a man of great integrity. He possesses extremely strong organizational skills. He is visionary and thinks big. He has very high expectations for students, staff, and for himself. Terry's deep commitment to City High School and public education will make him very successful in this new role. I am absolutely thrilled for our school and for Terry."
