Daily Links Excerpt of the Day:
βWe will absolutely, 100 percent, continue to operate the store on Van Buren Street for as long as itβs viable,β said Ramji Balakrishnan, president of New Pioneerβs board of directors. βSome people have thought we were going to take the store and move. No, that is not the plan at all.β
But Balakrishnan warned that the store will remain at that location only as long as itβs economically and physically feasible. Without the ability to expand and with food costs continuing to rise, sales are flat at the Iowa City store, Balakrishnan said. The store also is in the Ralston Creek floodplain and Balakrishnan said itβs not a matter of if but when the store will flood again.
βWe will continue in the current location for as long as we are able,β he said. βBut that is, in my mind, no more than a 10-year proposition.β
