Iowa City Woman Who Biked Across Japan to Protest Nuclear Weapons Speaking Tonight in Coralville
Three speakers including Michelle Gin, who recently returned from biking across Japan, will be participating in a forum called "Confronting Nuclear Peril: Nagasaki to Hiroshima & Fukushima" at the Coralville Public Library tonight.
Michelle Gin, who has been blogging about her bike tour across Japan here on Patch, has returned to Iowa and will be speaking tonight at the Coralville Public Library.
The bike tour was intended to raise awareness about the dangers of nuclear weapons, which is the focus of the forum tonight.
Gin, Maureen McCue and John Raschow are featured speakers participating in the forum called "Confronting Nuclear Peril:Â Nagasaki to Hiroshima & Fukushima," which begins at 7 p.m., tonight at Coralville Public Library, meeting room A.

Maureen McCue. Dr. McCue has traveled and worked extensively as a peace maker, researcher, and physician, and has helped organize many forums on cross cultural, global health, and women’s health issues.

Michelle Gin. Sole representative of the United States of the 2012 International Peace Bike Tour, cycling 373 miles from Nagasaki to Hiroshima, Japan with 39 other activists from around the world.
John Rachow.  Dr. Rachow, the immediate past president of the National Physicians for Social Responsibility, University of Iowa Rheumatalist and Geriatrician, has long been interested in the health risks associated with the development and deployment of nuclear weapons and nuclear power.
Maureen will share background of the organizations involved, the vision, rationale and goals for the intertwined events in Japan including the International Peace Bike Tour, ICAN Conference, and IPPNW 20th World Congress.
Michelle will cover the salient points about the nature and perspectives of the international youth on the International Peace Bike Tour and their encounters with various representatives of Japanese society along their route.
John will finish with important updates on the continuing struggle around the globe to learn the lessons from Japan and contain the twin threats of nuclear war and nuclear power.
