Iowa City Daily Links Excerpt of the Day:

After a busy holiday season, several local nonprofits finally have a second to pause and look back at their end of the year campaigns and fundraisers.

While some organizations fell short of their 2012 goals, others benefited from people in the giving spirit.

The Crisis Center of Johnson County’s Project Holiday brought in enough donations to provide 3,922 individuals and 1,344 county families with food assistance.

While winter weather put a damper on some programs Dec. 20, Sarah Benson Witry, food bank and emergency assistance director, said the event β€” which ran from Dec. 18 to Dec. 21 β€” still managed to serve 400 additional individuals compared to 2011.

β€œI think it went great,” said Benson Witry.Β
