City Release

Now that the calendar has flipped to November and the official start of winter is only weeks away, the time has come to start thinking about buttoning up the house for the cold weather season. To help out, the City of Iowa City is offering low-interest loans of up to $4,000 to income-eligible homeowners for energy-efficient improvements such as new furnaces or upgrades to heating systems, new windows, insulation, and/or weatherproofing.

To qualify, applicants must meet income guidelines established by HUD. For a one-person household, gross annual income must not exceed $45,000; for a household of three, no more than $57,850. Income guidelines for households of other sizes may be found at www.icgov.org/housingrehab. Homes must be single-family, owner-occupied residences located in Iowa City, and must have enough equity to cover the loan.

For more information, or to fill out an application, visit www.icgov.org/housingrehab and click on the Energy Efficiency Program file, or contact a staff member in the City's Housing Rehab Division: Liz Osborne, 319.356.5246 or liz-osborne@iowa-city.org, or Jeff Vanatter, 319.356.5128 or jeff-vanatter@iowa-city.org.
