Iowa City Offers Pickup Locations for Christmas Light Recycling

Got some Christmas lights that are providing more annoyance than holiday cheer? Here's how you can get them recycled.

As you're putting up or taking down your holiday decorations this year, remember that any strings of lights that no longer work or that you want to dispose of can be recycled. Although they can't be included with other household recyclables for curbside recycling, they may be dropped off at various recycling locations throughout Iowa City and Coralville, where special collection bins have been set up.

Lights may be taken to one of the locations listed below, and left in the special collection bins provided. Lights only, please -- do not drop packaging or other holiday decorations into the bins intended for holiday lights. The program is already underway, and will run through January 7. Recycling locations are:

Iowa City:
City Carton Recycling (3 E. Benton Street)
Hy-Vee South (Waterfront Drive)
Hy-Vee East (First Avenue)
Hy-Vee (North Dodge)
Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center (3900 Hebl Avenue SW)
ReStore (2401 Scott Blvd. SE)

Coralville:
Coralville City Hall (1512 7th Street)
Coralville Recreation Center (1506 8th Street)
Coralville Recycling Center (110 E. 7th Street)
Hy-Vee, Lantern Park Plaza (1914 8th Street)
Walgreens (102 2nd Street)
Walgreens (2751 Heartland Drive)
