Iowa City Police: Library Laptop Thief Caught LED Handed

A Coralville man was arrested after allegedly making off with two laptops and selling one at a pawn shop.


A Coralville man was arrested and charged with two felony theft charges for allegedly stealing two laptops on two different occassions. 

According to Iowa City Police, on March 12 an officer responded to the Iowa City Public Library for the theft of a pink backpack with a $2,000 Mac Book Pro inside, as well as the female complainant's notebooks and passport.

Five days earlier, a male victim at the Iowa City Library reported leaving his laptop and backpack with books inside unattended while he went to the restroom, and then coming back five minutes later to see that they had been stolen.

According to the complaint, surveillance video captured a man later identified as Cordaro Trevell Williams, 26, of Coralville taking the man's items. Williams allegedly took the laptop to Money and More where he loaned it under his name, according to the complaint.

A search warrant was obtained for Williams' apartment, and the laptop from March 12 was discovered their according to police.

Williams faces two charges of second-degree theft, a Class D felony, he is currently in the Johnson County Jail on $15,000 bond.
