Iowa City Police Seeking Suspect in Adult Video Store Robbery

Police say that Romantix on Kirkwood Avenue was robbed by a man wearing a gray sweatshirt on Friday, Sept. 21.


Iowa City Police are looking for information on a man who robbed the Romantix adult video store on September 21st.

According to an Iowa City Police press release, officers responded to a call on that Friday at 7:40 p.m. for the report of a robbery at Romantix at 315 Kirkwood Ave.

Upon arriving at the scene the officers reported that the suspect had already fled. According to a female employee, the robber, a heavy-set white male in a gray hooded sweatshirt, began crowding her space behind the counter and demanded money from the register. The woman, blocked in by the man, complied. The man then fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The emloyee was not injured in the incident. She was unsure if the man was armed.  The employee described the suspect as being 30-40 years old, with facial hair stubble, standing six feet in height and weighing between 215-250 pounds. The woman said it appeared that his sweatshirt had white paint smears on the front and on the sleeves.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential and the caller's identity does not need to revealed for a reward to be collected.
