Iowa City Police: Two Men Arrested After Assaulting Man, Threatening Him with Gun

The incident took place a week ago on Broadway Street, according to police.


Iowa City Police charged two men with felonies after assaulting another man during a confrontation and threatening him with a gun.

According to Iowa City Police, Jose Gumaro Rodriguez, 31, and Philip Esmond Worton-Smith, 28, of Iowa City, confronted an unnamed person outside his residence at 2110 Broadway Street at 10:00 p.m. at Dec. 13.

Rodriguez and Worton-Smith allegedly threatened the resident, with Rodriguez lifting his shirt and showing a gun and then pulling it out and pointing it at the victim. Worton-Smith then struck the victim before both men fled the scene, according the complaint.

Ramirez and Worton-Smith face charges of assault whileΒ displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, and going armed with intent, a felony.
