Iowa City Police: Man Slams Door on Officer's Foot. Then Tries Again, Harder.

The man was accused with two aggravated misdemeanors for the encounter, which started as an officer responding to a noise complaint.

An Iowa City man is facing two aggravated misdemeanor charges after he allegedly slammed a door on a police officer's foot multiple times, sending him to the hospital for treatment.

According to an Iowa City Police complaint, Vincent George Mangiameli, 22, of 500 South Linn Street, Iowa City was charged with interference with official acts, an aggravated misdemeanor, and assault causing injury to a police officer after he allegedly shut the door on the officer's foot multiple times.

Police say that officers responded to a noise complaint on May 6 at 2:22 a.m. at the Linn Street address where they made contact with Mangiameli. After speaking to the officers, Mangiameli allegedly tried to shut the door, when one of the officers stuck his foot forward to stop the door.

In response, Mangiameli tried again, harder, allegedly slamming the door "on the officer's foot while officers attempted to push back." Mangiameli was finally able to force the door closed.

According to the complaint, when later questioned by officers under miranda Mangiameli allegedly denied knowledge of the incident at first, then said that he had locked the door, then said that he had shut and lock the door in one motion. Police say that Mangianeli "insinuated that the officer's injury, which requirted transport by an ambulance for treatment, was completedly fabricated."
