Iowa City Services: What's Open and What's Closed from Christmas to the New Year

There will be some differences in schedule over the holiday week. Check out what they are here.


City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall and other City facilities will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 for Christmas, and Tuesday, January 1, for New Year's. Other closures or adjustments to City schedules for the holiday are as follows:

AIRPORT: The administration office will be closed December 24-25 and January 1, but self-serve fuel will be available around the clock.

ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION CENTER: Closed December 24-25 and January 1.

LANDFILL AND RECYCLING CENTER:

December 24: Open
December 25: ClosedΒ 
January 1: Closed

LIBRARY:

December 24: Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
December 25: Closed
December 31: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
January 1: Closed

PARKING:

The Transportation Services Office will be closed, ramps will be unstaffed, and meters will not be checked on December 24-25 or January 1. On December 31, normal operations will be in effect until 5 p.m., after which they will be closed until normal schedules resume on January 2.

PARKS AND RECREATION:

December 24: Office closed. Pools close at 4 p.m. Both recreation centers (Robert A. Lee and Scanlon / Mercer) close at 5 p.m.
December 25: All facilities closed.
December 26: Office closed. Both recreation centers open at 8 a.m. Pools open at 1 p.m.
December 31: Pools close at 4 p.m. Office and both recreation centers close at 5 p.m.
January 1: All facilities closed.
January 2: Office open regular hours. Both recreation centers open at 8 a.m. Pools open at 1 p.m.

POLICE:

Patrol personnel and station masters will be on duty, and the Police Department front desk will be open.

SENIOR CENTER:

December 24: Center closed. No senior meals will be served.
December 25: Center closed, but Senior Dining will be serving meals.
January 1: Center closed. No senior meals will be served.

SOLID WASTE

(refuse, recycling, and yard waste pick-up):
December 24: Monday's routes will be collected.
December 25: No collection.
December 26: Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected. Residents should have materials at the curb by 7 a.m., although the City cannot determine exactly what time the items will be picked up.
December 27, 28, and 31: Normal route collection.
January 1: No collection.
January 2: Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected. Residents should have refuse, recycling, and yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m.
January 3 and 4: Normal route collection.

TRANSIT

December 24: Saturday service schedule (free) will be available until 5 p.m. The last bus will leave the interchange at 5 p.m.
December 25: Closed. No bus service available.
December 31: Full regular service available until 5 p.m. The last bus will leave the interchange at 5 p.m.
January 1: Closed. No bus service available.

WATER

The Water Division office will be closed December 24-25 and January 1, but a 24-hour emergency line and on-call staff will be available. Residents who have a water emergency should call 319/356-5166 for assistance.
