Iowa Hawkeye Women Get Ninth Seed in NCAA Tournament, Facing Miami. (PDF NCAA Tournament bracket attached)

The nine-seed Iowa Hawkeyes (20-12) will host eighth-seeded Miami (21-10) on Sunday. It is the Iowa Women's Sixth-Straight visit to the NCAA Tournament.

The Iowa Hawkeye men won't be the only basketball team hosting a tournament game at Carver Hawkeye Arena this week.

And for the women the stakes will be much higher-- a first-round NCAA Tournament game.

The Iowa women's basketball team has earned a berth in the NCAA tournament for the sixth year in a row.

The Hawkeyes (20-12) are a No. 9 seed and will host eighth-seeded Miami (21-10) on Sunday. The winner will likely face No. 1 seed Notre Dame on Tuesday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Before Selection Monday, the Iowa Women found themselves not on the Bubble, but perhaps a shade closer to where they'd want to be given some of their impressive wins this year.

From a Quad City Times preview before the selection:

Iowa (20-12) has seven victories over rated teams, and if it is selected, it is guaranteed to play its first NCAA games at home. Carver-Hawkeye Arena will host first- and second-round games March 24 and 26.

“We have 20 wins, we have an RPI in the 30s and a strength of schedule in the 20s. We’re not even a bubble team in my opinion,” Bluder said.

The game will be played at 6:30 p.m. with ESPN2 providing the coverage. This will be the sixth straight visit for the Iowa Women to the NCAA Tournament, meaning this group of seniors has never been left out of the field.
