KRUI Radio is proud to announce the first-ever KRUI art exhibit: "On The Air: 29 Years of KRUI."  The exhibit will take place at Public Space Z (located on the lower level of the Wesley Center) from today until April 12, with a free opening reception this Friday, April 5th from 5:00-7:00 pm.

The exhibit features memorabilia from KRUI's 29-year history, including posters, merchandise, and newspaper clippings chronicling the life of the station.  The opening reception will  feature live music by Iowa City singer-songwriters Megan Buick and Dana T, along with refreshments from the New Pioneer Food Co-op and free KRUI merchandise.

For the past 29 years, KRUI 89.7 FM has served as Iowa City's sound alternative.  From its humble beginnings in the basement of Quadrangle Residence Hall to its current location the third floor of the Iowa Memorial Union, the station has long provided a creative outlet for student broadcasters, journalists, writers, businesspeople, and artists to express themselves both on and off the airwaves.

Since its first FM broadcast in March of 1984, the station has gained a second, exclusively-online radio station, The Lab, and continues to provide community members with its own unique brand of music, news, and sports programming to this day.

The exhibit's opening reception on Friday, April 5th will feature free music by two talented Iowa City musicians: Megan Buick and Dana T.  With sweet, muted vocals, imaginative lyrics, and dreamy guitar, Megan Buick creates a lo-fi folk-pop sound that is at once whimsical and commanding.  Buick has been making a name for herself throughout Iowa City, and was recently featured on the live performance radio show Little Village Live.  Dana T is a musician and visual artist who combines skillful guitar playing with catchy horn hooks, funky electronic beats, and poetic lyrics to create a truly unique listening experience.  Dana recently performed in Minneapolis and has shows scheduled in Iowa City, Milwaukee, and Chicago throughout April.

"On The Air: 29 Years of KRUI" is on view from April 2-12 in Public Space Z, located on the lower level of the Wesley Center at 120 N. Dubuque St.  In addition to the free opening reception on Friday, April 5th from 5:00-7:00 pm, the exhibit can be seen at the following times: Saturday (4/6) or Sunday (4/7) from 1-5pm, Monday (4/8) from 9am-1pm, or Wednesday (4/10) from 5-8pm.
