Last Severe Thunderstorm of the Year? Stormy Weather Could Arrive Saturday in Iowa City, Midwest

Forecasters are predicting the arrival of some potentially heavy rain this weekend. Tornadoes and hail could be possible.

Iowa certainly needs some rain, and it could get it this coming weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting that a cold front will rapidly rip eastward from the plains to the Great Lakes region, potentially bring heavy rains with it.

The NWS in the Quad Cities has a weather outlook suggesting that the chance for scattered showers will be slight on Friday night and increase into Saturday and Sunday. In its forecast outlook, it states that the conditions preceding the cold front will dictate the amount of rain.

The hazardous weather outlook indicates that tornadoes and hail could also come with this storm, with the area with the greatest risk for this is in the area south of Interstate 80.

Weather Underground currently places the chance of rain at 90 percent on late Friday through Saturday, and 50 percent on Sunday. Although highs will be nearly 80 degrees on Saturday, they are predicted to drop back down to the low 60s by the time the front passes through.
