New Downtown Bike Racks Installed; 24 New Bicycle Parking Spots

There should be some more bicycle parking spots in the downtown area to take advantage of.

City Release

Parking for 24 additional bicycles is now available in the downtown Iowa City area, following the purchase and installation of six new bike racks by the City of Iowa City Transportation Services Department. The new bike racks will not only provide additional parking for bicyclists and bicycling commuters, but will also help reduce demand for automobile parking in the downtown and campus areas.

The additional bicycle parking helps meet some of the recommendations outlined in the City's Bicycle Master Plan (to view, visit www.mpojc.org/what_we_do/metro_bicycle_master_plan.html ), and also supports the City's application for recognition as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.

Locations of the new bike racks are as follows:
• southeast corner of Gilbert and Market Streets, near John's Grocery
• 200 block of S. Linn, near White Rabbit
• Iowa City Public Library
• south entrance of Court Street parking structure (covered rack)
• 100 block of Court Street, where two racks have been installed near the UI School of Music
