City High’s 4th Ave. Jazz Company was awarded Show Choir Grand Champion on Saturday, March 7, at the 29th Annual Jefferson Show Choir Invitational in Cedar Rapids. This was the show choir’s third “Grand Champion" award this year, making it a record-winning season and a great tribute to Director Greg Grove, vocal music director at the school, who last week announced his retirement from City High. 4th Ave. also won best choreography and best vocals in the final round. In the day-round competition, 4th Ave. was recognized for “best band” and “best male soloist (David Maize). The junior show choir, City Lights, won 2nd place in the Prep show Choir category and also won “best band” for instrumentals. Also, City High’s Chamber Choir won in the Concert Choir Grand Champion category.
