(Photos) Election 2012 Results: Iowa City Kids Vote Mostly Matches Adults

Elementary students throughout the Iowa City school district voted as part of a Future Voters Program.

As the kids marched through the gymnasium at Longfellow Elementary on Tuesday afternoon, they headed straight to the voting booth.

Why not? It was Election Day.

"If you don't know, you don't have to vote," Rob McCain told fifth and sixth graders in Julie Hansen's class. "Just vote for what you know."

Results largely matched adults in Johnson County. Kids picked Obama nearly four to one over Romney. They wanted to re-elect U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack and hang on to the three incumbent Johnson County Supervisors.

McCain, who is with the Iowa City Board of Realtors, was the coordinator at the Longfellow location of a Young Voters Program, which is being held throughout the Iowa City School District.

The point is to teach kids about the voting process.

"You can't ask your friends questions while you are voting. You can't say who to vote for," he said.

Across town, children at Horn Elementary were also making their voice heard on Tuesday afternoon. Take a look at some of the local pictures.
