Plenty of Roadwork to Watch Out for in Iowa City this Week, Starting Tuesday

Here are some road projects set to begin this week.


The Iowa City Streets Division must be trying to take advantage of the remaining construction days while they can, as weather permitting several street construction projects are set to begin tomorrow and Wednesday. Here's some streets for you to watch for as you drive around town, with info provided by the City of Iowa City.

S. Dubuque Street

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, October 16, 2012, S. Dubuque Street will be closed from Wright Street to Lafayette Street. This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of storm sewer in the area. The road will be re-opened to normal traffic by the end of the day.

Motorists are to seek an alternate route during this time periods. As always, caution should be exercised when traveling in construction areas.

North Governor and Jefferson Street

Weather permitting, beginning on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, N. Governor Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic in various locations between Burlington Street and N. Dodge Street. In addition, Jefferson Street, at its intersection with N. Governor Street, will be reduced to one lane of traffic. These lane reductions are necessary to facilitate several pavement replacement patches between Burlington Street and N. Dodge Street. It is anticipated that construction will take place for two weeks and that normal traffic will resume by the end of October.

Jefferson Street

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, October 16, 2012, Jefferson Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic from Lucas Street to Governor Street. This lane reduction is necessary to facilitate work on a gas main in the area. The road will be re-opened to normal traffic by the end of the day.

Wright Street

Weather permitting, beginning on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, Wright Street will be closed to traffic from Clinton Street to Dubuque Street. This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of storm sewer in the area. It is anticipated normal traffic will resume by the end of the day on Friday, October 19th.
