Police: Iowa City Man Accused of Shooting BB Gun at City Workers

The man allegedly fired his BB gun at city employees working on nearby piping.


An Iowa City man is facing a misdemeanor charge after allegedly shooting multiple times at nearby city workers with a BB gun Monday morning.

According to an Iowa City Police criminal complaint, at 11:05 a.m. city workers were fixing water pipes in the street near the home of Fredrick Conrad Krause Jr., 60, at 15 N. 7th Avenue when Krause emerged from his home and allegedly began shooting rapid fire in their direction with a BB or Pellet Gun.

A witness passing by reportedly saw this happen and reported it to the Iowa City Police Department, according to a criminal complaint.

As officers approached, Krause allegedly attempted to hide the BB rifle under the hood of his car. After being questioned by officers, Krause stated that he hadn't been shooting at the employees but was instead shooting at birds, and he didn't know it was illegal to discharge the gun within the city limits. Krause eventually relinquished the gun to the police.

Krause was charged with discharging a toy gun or slingshot within the city limits.
