Report: Hawkeye Running Back Greg Garmon to Transfer
The annual revolving door at the running back position continues.

Sigh.
Although it appears to be a mutual parting of ways, the University of Iowa Hawkeye team finds itself down another running back before the next season even begins, this time in person of highly rated prep recruit Greg Garmon, reports Hawkeye Insider.
"It was great to be a Hawkeye," Greg Garmon said. "Best fans in the country. It just wasn't a fit for me."

Garmon was given an unconditional release according to his father, Tony Hollingsworth, who said his son met with Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz and running backs coach Lester Erb Wednesday before the release was granted.
"It was a good meeting (with Ferentz),' Hollingsworth said. "They agreed that it wasn't a good fit at Iowa. (Ferentz) told him that he had his blessing and he wished him the best wherever he ended up."

Garmon, who originally hails from Erie, Pennsylvania, leaves the Hawkeyes for a school to be named later after receiving some good playing time as a true freshman. The Garmon transfer was also reported here.
Garmon's departure marks another setback for the Hawkeyes at the position, one that has been so troubled in recent years that Iowa fans have created a cult mythology figure called Angry Running Back Hating God, which hounds each Hawkeye right as they are on the brink of success. The "curse" is so prominent that it even receives mention in the main stream, such as this article in USA Today.
