State Fair Winners from Iowa City
Several Iowa City residents won contests at the State Fair, according to results released Monday and Tuesday.

Lucky you if you're on Lisa Wilcox's Christmas list this year. The Iowa City knitter won both the Sweepstakes and Best of Show overall awards at the Iowa State Fair, according to results released on Monday.
Along the way, Wilcox picked up blue ribbons for two different cardigan sweaters, socks and slippers, and a shawl or wrap. She also collected ribbons for knitting a toy and for a felted purse.
Another Iowa City woman, Vicki Tardy, won a blue ribbon in the hands-on fashion accessory category. Fabric and Threads exhibits will be on display for the remainder of the fair in the William C. Knapp Varied Industries Building sponsored by Principal Financial Group.

Iowa City residents tops at making beer and chocolates
Three Iowa city residents are experts in making beer and chocolates, according to judges at the Iowa State Fair.
Stacey Hockett Sherlock of Iowa City took third place overall in the Chocolaterie Stam Chocolates contest.
She also won honorable mention in the truffles contest, third place in caramels and she won the nut clusters category.
Wayne Bowman and Andy Joynt took home top ribbons in the beer portion of the Amateur Oenology competition. Of 26 categories of beers judged: Bowman won the Scotch and Irish category and took second place in the Schwarzbier category; Joynt won the Spiced, Smoked Wood Aged beer category and won ribbons in American IPA, Belgian Specialty and Barleywine categories
C&H Canned Fruit Butters

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City won both first and second places overall in the C&H Canned Fruit Butters contest judged Aug. 10 at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Zeitler's Plum Butter topped entrants in 8 different categories of competition. His Peach Butter claimed the runner-up spot. He also won or placed in the top three in six other categories.
King Arthur Flour Bread
There was no loafing around for entrants in each of the 25 different classes of competition in the King Arthur Flour Bread contest judged Aug. 9, prior to the start of the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Iowa Citian Places High in Canning Competition
Rod Zeitler of Iowa City left the competition in a pickle, winning first place in the Canning With Mrs. Wages competition judged Thursday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Entrants were challenged to can either pickles or tomatoes using Mrs. Wages seasonings and were judged on taste and appearance.
Sandra Kinzenbaw of Marengo took second place, and Erin Kramer of Nevada earned third place.
