University of Iowa Homecoming Parade: Romney-Ryan Float Gets Boos, Cheers; Hawkeye Marching Band and Party On Downtown IC (Photos/Video)

Students marching in support of the Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan campaign for president got a mix of boos and cheers from parade goers in Iowa City as part of the University of Iowa annual homecoming celebration on Friday.

The floats flowed through downtown Iowa City on Friday evening as part of the University of Iowa homecoming parade.

This was the 100th homecoming celebration. On Saturday, Iowa Hawkeyes take on Minnesota for the homecoming game.

The parade was full of the normal festivities and a few unexpected sights.

For example, among the 100-some floats in the parade was a group of 30 or so students marching in support of the Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan GOP presidential ticket, along with John Archer down the ballot in the race against Congressman Dave Loebsack.

Let's just say that the Iowa City faithful watching the parade gave them a welcome you might expect from a town that votes nearly three-to-one Democrat to Republican.

Romney-Ryan group was heckled and booed, at least in one section of the parade, as they walked, although gave some of the ribbing back. Some were also cheering for the Republican advocates.

Later, the alumni Hawkeye marching band held their own parade, of sorts, serenading downtown Iowa City with the hymns of the Hawkeyes.
