Iowa City Farmers Market Kicks Off 2013 Season

Iowa City's beloved Farmers Market kicked off its 41st season of the Iowa City Farmers Market on Monday night.

Today's market was crowded with market lovers from the first whistle blow, as they attempted to grab some good produce before the cold snap of the next few days.

Iowa City Farmers Market Coordinator Tammy Neumann said the market draws thousands of people each year, some of them repeat customers to the same vendors who came every year.

"It's a very social event," Neumann said. "It's a great place for people to come and they can meet the farmers who grew that food and they can talk to them about their practices."

The market, held in the Chauncey Swan Ramp accross from City Hall, runs May through October on Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. - noon. Check out the Iowa City Farmers Market Facebook page for more details.
