Volunteers Needed for Ralston Creek Pickup

This Sunday, April 7, the schedule of 2013 projects will kick off with a clean-up of a section of Ralston Creek.

The City of Iowa City's Stormwater Division relies on hundreds of volunteers throughout the year to help with environmental clean-ups in the City's creeks, river, prairies, wetlands, and other natural areas. This Sunday, April 7, the schedule of 2013 projects will kick off with a clean-up of a section of Ralston Creek.

Volunteers must first sign up at www.facebook.com/iowa.city.stormwater.volunteers. Anyone under the age of 18 who wants to participate must have a parent or guardian sign a liability form at the start of the event. 

Volunteers should meet shortly before noon on Sunday at the bridge near 728 Second Avenue. Volunteers will be removing woody debris, trash, and invasive species from the creek and its banks. They are advised to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes or boots, and should come prepared to get dirty. Tools and gloves will be provided. The clean-up is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m.
