Winter Storm Draco: Iowa Officials Warn to Stay Off Roads Until Midnight Friday; Multiple Crashes Reported

Authorities are extending an advisory against travel another twelve hours.

Johnson County missed out on receiving the foot of snow that was forecasted, but it still is suffering from the blowing snow and icy road conditions that have plagued the rest of the state.

A tow ban was announced last night for highways and interstates in Johnson County and other counties by the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Officials also warned motorists to stay off the road until at least noon on Friday. With windspeeds picking up, the Iowa Department has since extended that warning to midnight tonight, reports the Associated Press.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports multiple accidents so far, including a 25-car pileup in Northern Iowa, but no confirmed fatalities (Update: KCRG reports there may have been one fatality in the 25-car accident.) There have also been confirmed accidents along Interstate 80, most notably between Des Moines and Iowa City near Grinnell, closing traffic on the East bound lane.
