Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids Receives $5.2 Million Grant for Taxiway Construction

FAA grant will fund construction of taxiway at airport

Rep. Bruce Braley (IA-01) announced today that the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids has been awarded a $5.2 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The funding will be used to construct a taxiway and new connections to the terminal ramp at the airport.

 

Braley said, “The taxiway construction funded by this grant will help increase capacity and improve the safety of the Eastern Iowa Airport. More and more passengers are taking advantage of the convenience the Eastern Iowa Airport provides, and the improvements funded by this grant will help Cedar Rapids’ airport become an even more effective regional economic driver.”

The funding is for a project that includes the construction of Taxiway E along Runway 13/31 and connection to the terminal ramp, providing access to the northwest end of the runway and allowing taxiing aircraft to further separate from ramp areas.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported in July that the Eastern Iowa Airport saw a nearly 10 percent increase in the number of passengers flying out of Cedar Rapids in its 2013 fiscal year.
