Linn County Secondary Road Closures Due to Water Over Road

LINN COUNTY, IA – June 26, 2013 – A number of secondary roads in Linn County have been closed due to water over the road. The public is reminded to Turn Around Don't Drown® by not driving through flooded roads or around road barricades. Road barricades are put in place as public safety measures because flooded roads may be washed out underneath the water and the depth of the water is unknown. According to the National Weather Service, a mere six inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult, and it takes only two feet of rushing water to carry away most vehicles. This includes pickups and SUVs.

Linn County secondary road closures include the following roads:

DISTRICT 1 ROAD CLOSURES:

·         Arabian Rd from White Rd to N Alburnett Rd

·         East Otter Rd from Midway Rd to Fishel Rd

·         Fishel Rd from East Otter Rd to Alice Rd

DISTRICT 2 ROAD CLOSURES:

·         Palisades Access Road at the bridge south of Banner Valley Rd

DISTRICT 3 ROAD CLOSURES:

As a public safety reminder, Linn County officials remind the public to stay away from flood waters, including, but not limited to streams, rivers, dams, sewers and any contaminated water source. Flood waters are dangerous and pose an increased risk of accidents due to swift moving water, strong currents, and rapidly moving debris.
